A city bus operator kept its driver information in several places: spreadsheets for monthly trips, printed attendance sheets, and Word forms for inquiries and warnings. We designed and built one app to hold all of it. Managers can open any driver and see trips against target, incidents, leave and duty days on a single page. Review lists and letters are built from the same records, so nothing has to be copied by hand from one file to another.

The problem

Driver records were spread across spreadsheets, paper sheets and separate document templates. Checking one driver meant opening several files. Monthly trips against target were tracked manually in spreadsheets, attendance sheets were made separately for each shift, and each inquiry or warning letter was typed up individually. There was no single view of who was doing well, who was falling behind, or whose licence was about to expire.

What we built

A dashboard with a short written briefing and key figures. A searchable driver list with filters and Excel export. Driver profiles showing a performance score, monthly trips against target, incidents, leave and a 13-day duty timeline. A duty roster with morning, evening and rest views and printable attendance sheets. An accountability board that shortlists drivers below target for several months, and generators for warning letters and inquiry forms.

Driver list — grades, trips and trends at a glance
Driver profile — score breakdown and 13-day duty timeline
Duty roster — morning, evening and rest, ready to print
Accountability board — a rule-based review shortlist
Warning letters — written from each driver’s own trip record

Design details

The interface works in English and Urdu, with a full right-to-left layout for Urdu. Tables use clear columns, tabular numbers and colour only where it carries meaning: green for on target, red for below. Every score has a short explanation one tap away. Light and dark themes, a quick-search palette and a mobile layout with bottom navigation keep it usable on a desk or on a phone.

Technical approach

The whole app is a single HTML file. There is no server and no database to host. Driver data is encrypted inside the file with AES-256 and opens only with a password; the app also locks itself after a period of inactivity. It runs offline once opened, and can be installed on a phone like an app. New monthly figures are added by importing spreadsheets.

  • Single HTML file
  • AES-256 encryption
  • Works offline
  • Installable on phones
  • Spreadsheet import

What it changed for the team

Managers now work from one record instead of several files. Attendance sheets print straight from the roster. Warning letters and inquiry forms fill in automatically from each driver’s own record, in Urdu or English. Monthly reviews start from a shortlist built on the same rule for every driver, and expiring licences or ID cards show up before they become a problem.

Scope of work

  1. Product design and information structure
  2. Interface design for desktop and mobile
  3. Front-end development (single-file web app)
  4. Data model and spreadsheet import
  5. Client-side encryption and auto-lock
  6. English and Urdu localisation with right-to-left layout
  7. Print templates: attendance sheets, review shortlist, warning letters, inquiry forms
